At 86, a woman becomes a penta-grandmother and celebrates her more than 90 grandchildren: “I am a lucky woman”

The Scotswoman is celebrating her penta-grandmother title, with six generations of the family alive at the same time.

When we think about the natural cycle of families, we understand that the oldest members will probably not be alive anymore when the younger ones arrive, because the birth years are often too far apart.

However, in some cases, this reality does not apply. Mary Marshall, an 86-year-old woman from the UK, has been successful in boasting an incredible family reality.

The Scot is celebrating the title of penta-grandmother, that is, with six generations of the family alive.

Mary has eight children and 90 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. According to a BBC report , his family is one of the only six generations in the UK. Mary is the oldest member and the youngest is Nyla Ferguson, a baby about 4 months old.
The mothers are on the same side of the family and, with the exception of the youngest, all work or have worked as caregivers. These women, who had children at age 18 or under, live in and around Edinburgh. On May 25th, Mary won the title of Scotland’s only penta-grandmother with the birth of Nyla.

Although for many people the idea of a large family is not well accepted, for the elderly it is a reason for celebration. She said she considers herself a lucky woman, and added that having a large family is great as there is always someone to look after her.

As you can imagine, with such a big family, the meetings are always full of a lot of mess and conversation, but also a lot of love and warmth. Rose, Mary’s eldest daughter, said she thinks it’s great when a baby arrives, as the children in the family are raised among many other children.
According to Guinness World Records , the highest number of generations alive in a single family to date is seven, but it could be that Mary’s family will be able to surpass that record.

Family is a blessing, and when we learn to get along with our family members, we discover that we are never truly alone. This family, of course, is full of unity, affection and love. We wish you good health so that everyone can live for many more years together.
